Tshering Phuntsho is an accomplished education leader with over 17 years of experience in teaching, school leadership, and national education reform in Bhutan. His career reflects a deep commitment to improving the quality of teaching and learning, from the classroom to the policy level.
Holding a Master’s Degree in Biology from Mahidol University, Thailand, and a Bachelor of Education from the National Institute of Education, Bhutan, Tshering has combined academic expertise with visionary leadership to drive large-scale initiatives that have shaped Bhutan’s education landscape.
As Deputy Chief Programme Officer at the Ministry of Education, he led transformative projects including the Bhutan Professional Standards for Teachers (BPST), nationwide digital pedagogy training, and the development of ICT and English Language Standards for educators. His work has been instrumental in modernising teacher professional development, enhancing digital learning capacity, and fostering a culture of leadership in schools. Tshering’s influence extends beyond Bhutan through active participation in UNESCO and regional education forums, where he has shared Bhutan’s innovations and collaborated on global best practices. His leadership has earned him recognition such as the Young Professional Leadership Programme Award and invitations to speak at high-level conferences across Asia.
