“Lopön Kadrinche La - Remembering My Teacher”

Thimphu, Bhutan: EduPlus Training Institute is honoured to produce a tribute documentary titled Lopön Kadrinche La - Remembering My Teacher as an endearing tribute to the enduring legacy of teachers in Bhutan. Situated within the country’s unique civilisational ethos, where the teacher (Lopon) is revered as a moral and spiritual guide comparable to a Bodhisattva, the documentary offers a nuanced exploration of the pedagogical, philosophical, and humanistic contributions of an exemplary educator whose influence transcends national boundaries.
Conceptualised as a socio-cultural intervention, the documentary engages with Bhutan’s educational history, tracing the institutionalisation of modern education. It foregrounds the often under-documented yet profoundly significant role of teachers as custodians of knowledge, ethical formation, and national consciousness. Through a carefully curated narrative that integrates lived experiences, testimonial accounts, and reflective inquiry, the documentary seeks to preserve an important dimension of Bhutan’s educational heritage while fostering a deeper societal appreciation of the teaching profession.
By re-situating retired and senior educators within the public imagination, the documentary addresses the contemporary paradox of reverence without recognition, thereby restoring dignity, visibility, and intergenerational connectedness. It further aspires to cultivate a renewed ethic of gratitude among students and society at large, positioning education not merely as a system of knowledge transmission but as a transformative human relationship.
The project has been supported by the India Bhutan Foundation through the Indian Embassy, recognising the historical and developmental contributions of Indian educators who played a formative role in the expansion and consolidation of Bhutan’s modern education system. In doing so, the documentary also serves as a symbolic articulation of the enduring intellectual and cultural partnership between Bhutan and India, reinforcing people-to-people ties through the shared legacy of education.
The project is envisaged as a replicable framework for future scholarly and cultural documentation of educators, contributing to a sustained national discourse on the role of teachers in shaping Bhutan’s developmental trajectory. EduPlus Training Institute, as the producer of this initiative, reaffirms its commitment to advancing knowledge-based, culturally responsive, and socially impactful programmes that bridge scholarship, policy, and practice.
